Se is a fascinating chemical element from the group of chalcohols. The most stable form, gray metallic Se, exhibits semi-metallic properties. Red Se, non-metallic, transitions to gray metallic Se above 80°C. Another variant, black Se, also converts to gray metallic at over 80°C. Se metal comprises six naturally occurring isotopes, five of which are stable.

Se holds significant economic importance and is vital for all life forms. Medically, Se-based preparations treat skin diseases, and Se sulfide (1%) combats dandruff in shampoos. In the glass industry, Se metal is used to produce ruby glass for signal and traffic lights. Additionally, Se is indispensable in the semiconductor industry.
